Fabrizio Romano Supplies Tottenham Update as Personal Terms Agreed With Manor Solomon

Tottenham Poised to Sign Shakhtar Donetsk Winger Manor Solomon

With new manager Ange Postecloglu at the helm, Tottenham have got their summer rebuild off to a flyer as Solomon could become their fifth signing of the window following the news that Pedro Porro’s stay in North London is becoming permanent.

Romano tweeted: “Tottenham have reached verbal agreement with Manor Solomon, here we go!”

“Deal in place as medical tests have been scheduled for next week.

“Solomon agreed personal terms.

“He’s joining Spurs as free agent — if all goes to plan with Shakhtar and FIFA rules.”

How Did Solomon Get On at Fulham?

The winger impressed while on loan at the Cottagers despite limited game time. He had to undergo knee surgery at the start of the season which saw him miss 16 Premier League games between August and December.

With Solomon forced to watch on for the first half of the season, once he returned to action in January, he knew he had to work some magic to make his loan spell worthwhile and that is exactly what he did.

Solomon only made four starts during his stay in West London but it was contributions off the bench that endeared him to the Fulham faithful. The tricky winger scored coming off the bench in three consecutive matches as he helped Fulham record victories over Nottingham Forest and Brighton before rescuing a point for his side against Wolves.

In the next match, Solomon’s patience rewarded him with his first start of the season and he showed Marco Silva what he’d been missing out on by scoring in their 3-2 defeat against Brentford. While he was out of favour under Silva, Postegcoglu has jumped at the opportunity to sign Solomon as Spurs are light on options in that area and with the Australian likely to use his 4-3-3 system that has proved successful so far, the 23-year-old could be the perfect fit.

Spurs Involved In A Potential Law Suit?

According to reports by ESPN, Shakhtar’s owner Sergei Palkin is threatening to sue Spurs if they try to sign Solomon. Despite his contract at Shakhtar not expiring until December, current FIFA rules allow players under contract at a Ukranian club to extend their deals for a further year. This clause is known as Annex 7 and it means that Solomon can extend his current contract past its expiry date (December 31) and join a new club as a free agent.

While this is beneficial to Spurs’ summer recruitment, Shakhtar’s board are unhappy with FIFA’s decision to extend the Annex 7 until the summer of 2024 and Palkin has also warned Tottenham that they could face legal action if they exploit the situation to their advantage.
