Titans head coach Brian Callahan raves about 'super impressive' offseason for Treylon Burks
Andrew Nelles / The Tennessean / USA TODAY NETWORK

Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks is entering a make-or-break year in 2024 after two disappointing seasons from the 2022 first-round draft pick.

Burks has slipped down the depth chart after the Titans added Calvin Ridley and Tyler Boyd this offseason, but head coach Brian Callahan is encouraged by Burks' progress this offseason.

Callahan took to the podium on Thursday to outline his expectations for Burks' role in the offense for the upcoming season.

"As far as Treylon's role, he's gonna play everything," said Callahan. "We've told him that from the beginning. He's gonna play inside, he's gonna play outside. He's gonna carve out a role for himself."

In 22 games with the Titans Burks has racked up just 49 catches for 665 receiving yards and one touchdown. He has been held back by injuries, but when he's been on the field Burks has too often struggled to come up with a big play.

The Titans have been waiting for Burks to take a leap and develop into the game-changing pass catcher SEC fans came to know during his college days at Arkansas. From what Callahan has seen, he's impressed with what Burks has done up to this point in the offseason.

"I had him come up today and do the break after practice because his work he's put in has been really impressive," Callahan noted. "Treylon ran 3,591 yards on Tuesday and then hit our top speed and team-leading top speed at 22.6 miles per hour in practice, so super impressive workload and performance. He's had a really good offseason. I'm excited about what he can bring for us. I meant [what] I said the other day when I said I think he's gonna have a role to play."

While Callahan's words are encouraging, this isn't the first time a coaching staff has been impressed with Burks' offseason performance. In order for Burks to quiet his doubters and change his narrative he's going to have to produce on Sundays which entails becoming more reliable and staying healthy.
