The Las Vegas Raiders added key help for presumed starting quarterback Aidan O’Connell in the 2024 NFL Draft with offensive players taken in the first three picks. First round selection Brock Bowers out of Georgia is expected to add a security blanket as a pass catcher over the middle and a talented blocker on the edge and interior of the offense for a Raiders team that needs help all over the field.

On Saturday, an article published to TheScore.com included O’Connell’s praise for current Las Vegas head coach Antonio Pierce in a series of comments that has shed new light on the Raiders offensive leader’s expectations for this season and beyond.

The O’Connell comments came during an analysis of the one undrafted free agent expected to make the Raiders roster this season. Game-by-game predictions were also offered during a Raiders pre-season schedule release.

O’Connell may not be the second coming of Joe Montana or Tom Brady, but he does have skills and talent between his ears that Raiders fans could see come to fruition on the field this season if Pierce’ vision for the Raiders comes to pass.

O’Connell Makes Raiders Future Admission

O’Connell appeared quite humble and reflective in a video posted to Twitter on Saturday during which he stated that he was grateful that Coach Pierce has “given him the right” to take the first snaps with the first team offense. He also shared his gratitude and humility for Pierce’s decision and spoke about what he expects as the likely starting QB for the Raiders, including the fierce competition that is about to ensue with Gardner Minshew and others.

Raiders’ 2024 Outlook

The Raiders are now being seen as an x-factor type of team in the AFC West as the Chiefs are bound to come back to Earth sooner or later and the division is experiencing a major shake-up. O’Connell is seen as the weak link among division quarterbacks but he has a history of thriving in an underdog role with the Purdue Boilermakers, whom he led to a Big Ten Championship Game appearance during his time in West Lafayette, Ind.

Maxx Crosby gives the Raiders a superstar pass rusher off the edge and Davante Adams is as good as it gets at the wide receiver position. With Brock Bowers adding a new potential Pro Bowl receiver in the passing game, Antonio Pierce steering the ship, Maxx Crosby causing nightmares for opposing quarterbacks, the Raiders could surprise many fans this season.

Davante Adams and Aidan O’Connell have a chance to build a solid rapport on the field, which would give the Raiders a head start toward an explosive passing game.

O’Connell might not make the Pro Bowl, but he does offer the Raiders an intelligent and self-aware player who knows his role without trying to do to much. That’s something Coach Pierce and the Raiders can build on as they prepare to take on a stacked AFC West division in 2024-2025.
