'The prestige behind him as a person,' Robert Whittaker reacts to UFC not stripping Jon Jones off title as UFC 304 card gets announced
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Jon Jones not being stripped of his UFC title has been a controversial issue for a while. Tom Aspinall has called this out multiple times. However, he still remains the Interim title holder fighting Curtis Blaydes in about a month at UFC 304. Meanwhile, former UFC champion Robert Whittaker has an explanation for why Jon Jones cannot be stripped of his title.

Robert Whittaker recently sat down for a conversation on the MMArcade Podcast. During his discussion, Whittaker talked about UFC 304 and why Jon Jones is still the UFC heavyweight champion.

Its very hard to take the belt away off Jones, just with his tenure. The way the things that he’s done in the sport and just you know the prestige behind him as a person, an athlete.

Aspinall still gets his title fight at Manchester. He would get his PPV money, and as per Whittaker’s assumption, his championship PPV points too. Tom Aspinall would make money defending the Interim Heavyweight Championship title. Also, Whittaker was glad Curtis Blaydes was the one competing against Aspinall for the title.

UFC CEO, Dana White recently confirmed Tom Aspinall and Curtis Blaydes’ heavyweight rematch at UFC 304. Their first encounter headlined UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Aspinall in 2022 and ended with a controversial loss for Aspinall.

Daniel Cormier calls Jon Jones insecure in latest YouTube video

Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones’ rivalry goes back to 2015 when Jones gave Cormier his first career loss at UFC 182. Since then Cormier has had an active voice throughout Jon Jones’ career. He recently made some interesting comments on Jones’s recent viral DM exchange with a fan.

A DM exchange allegedly from Jon Jones bragging about a $15 million showdown with Stipe Miocic went viral in the MMA community. Daniel Cormier reacted to it on his YouTube channel saying:

Jones wrote that. I’m telling you right now as a guy that has exchanged direct messages with him that he wrote that… It sounds like something he would write because it’s something he gets to brag about… He should be fighting Stipe Miocic, right?… Of course, he’s going to fight him if he’s making $15 million. A lot of times fans will just say rude s**t that they think will hurt you and it doesn’t make sense, but that fan was not as off as some might think because when you say all that money and you’re still as insecure as you are – coward, no, but he’s still insecure.

Cormier said that Jon Jones does have some insecurities, as we all do. However, according to him, Jones’ insecurities are just on display for the world to see and time and time again he has shown that. Cormier said that if Jon Jones was actually talking to fans right now, their words are getting to him.
