The Boston Red Sox are set to take on the St. Louis Cardinals in their next series that kicks off on Friday, May 17. Tyler O’Neill is finally facing his former team and it should be a good one. Leading up to the contest, O’Neill talked about what it’s like facing St. Louis since joining Boston via trade.

During a guest appearance on NESN’s 310 to Left podcast, the Red Sox outfielder claimed he hopes for only good things to happen for the Cardinals but he does expect his team to win the series. It’s cool to see he still respects the St. Louis franchise.

“Hope for nothing but positive results for those guys. But obviously, when we play them, I want to take it to them. I want to go in there and sweep them at home. That would be really sweet for me.”

It’ll be interesting to see how Tyler O’Neill plays in this series. He’s been solid for the Red Sox so far this season, recording a .256 batting average, 10 home runs, and 16 RBIs. O’Neill is one of the most consistent hitters in Boston right now and he seemingly wants to turn on the jets against the Cardinals.

The series kicks off on Friday, May 17 at 8:15 P.M. Eastern. Look for Tyler O’Neill to do everything he can to help the Red Sox earn a big win. A victory will officially put Boston above .500 on the season.

Red Sox playoff outlook

Rafael Devers Eric Canha-USA TODAY Sports

The Red Sox are in fourth place of the American League East but they’re currently holding a 22-22 record. So, they’re certainly in the mix right now, and getting hot would catapult them up the rankings. Boston is playing rather well considering they’ve dealt with a string of bad injury luck.

But this team should be getting healthier as the season goes on. Triston Casas is due to return sometime in June which will bring some electricity to the plate. If the Red Sox can get healthy and remain competitive they could be in the running for a playoff spot late in the regular season.
